Dress Our Guest

Dress Our Guest WEB

THE GUEST spent last night on the streets of London. He wasn’t partying or sight-seeing, he was curled up inside a cardboard box in a doorway. Now he’s inside the Webber Street Centre for homeless people, wrapping his hands around a mug of hot coffee, his senses awakened by the pungent aroma. Feeling more alert, he listens attentively to a short talk based on today’s Bible passage. His brain is fully engaged but that doesn’t stop his mouth watering as the smell of bacon and fried eggs wafts in from the kitchen – food for the soul will be followed by food for the body. After breakfast he will gratefully accept a shower, clean clothing and medical attention for a cut on his left hand. He’ll also welcome the practical advice intended to ensure his days on the street are numbered.

THE CHALLENGE is that with over one hundred men coming through the Centre each morning we urgently need more clothing. We give out ten thousand changes of clothes every year, all of it donated by people like you.

CAN YOU HELP provide our guests with underwear, t-shirts, trousers, jumpers, socks and shoes? Why not persuade your church or youth group to join you in rising to the challenge? It needn’t cost much to dress a guest: visit local supermarkets, clothing outlets and good quality second-hand clothes shops – perhaps they’ll do you a deal!

Please remember: as the vast majority of guests are male we only need men’s clothes, and all second-hand items should be washed and in good condition.

Are you able to provide any of the following items?

For men:

Socks, underpants, t-shirts, jeans and casual trousers, shoes, jumpers and casual jackets.

No suits please.

For ladies:

Underwear, t-shirts jeans and casual jackets.

Thank you!
