Reaching Hindus and Sikhs with the gospel

Are you looking for a more effective way to help your Hindu and Sikh friends or neighbours understand the saving message of Jesus?

Maybe you are just starting out and don’t know where to begin, or perhaps you have talked about Jesus already and don’t know where to go next...

Religions like Hinduism are not just a set of beliefs, but they are wrapped up in a culture steeped in ancient history and heritage. This upcoming Practical Evangelism Training is designed to help you understand the Hindu and Sikh faiths whilst learning practical ways to engage with people of these belief systems effectively and confidently.

We’ll give you a feel for the culture, introduce the basic beliefs and explain the concepts behind the religion. Our speakers are LCM missionaries with a Hindu or Sikh background, so you can learn tips from first-hand experience!

You’ll uncover the main barriers for Hindus and Sikhs to follow Jesus, and we’ll equip you with practical ways to overcome them. What language or terminology should we avoid? How can we tell our own faith story in a way that is relatable and relevant? What are the less obvious dos and don’ts?

The day will be packed full of accessible and practical tips that you and your church can use immediately to reach the Hindu and Sikh communities.

We pray you’ll come away not only informed, but equipped and excited to take the next step in bringing the good news of Jesus to your Hindu and Sikh friends and neighbours!

Overview of the day

The day will begin with a reflection from the Bible as we consider what God has to say about reaching Hindus and Sikhs with the gospel.

The first two sessions will then cover the basics of the Hindu and the Sikh faiths, run by experienced missionaries Gifty Dhanapal, Joseph Pandian, and Manmohan Singh.

You can expect lots of practical workshops and seminars to follow, including how to avoid 'Christianese' when we talk to people, and tips for intentional spiritual conversations.

The day will conclude with a workshop on how to share your testimony specifically to Hindus and Sikhs, and there will be an open time for questions.

Harish Patel

Field Director West London

Harish is a Field Director working across four teams in west London, seeking to equip and inspire everyday Christians for the gospel. They are also developing resources to help churches reach Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs in their community. "As a Hindu-background believer, I find myself at home in this vibrant culture to share the good news of the Lord Jesus through words and deeds.”

Manmohan Signh

LCM Team Leader Hounslow

Manmohan was born into a devout Sikh family in India. At the age of 18 he became a follower of Christ and, at age 20 he became a missionary. He then joined London City Mission in 2022 to work as a team leader in Hounslow, London. "My heart is for Christians to become salt and light so that each Sikh will hear and understand the gospel and therefore have an opportunity to begin a journey towards discipleship."

Gifty Dhanapal

LCM Team Leader Lambeth and Wandsworth

Gifty leads a team of missionaries in Lambeth and Wandsworth, South London. Together with her team, they share the good news of Jesus with those least likely to have a Christian friend, especially those from Asian and Middle Eastern countries. "I would like to explain the life-saving message of Jesus in a way that helps people from other faiths relate to it."

Joseph Pandian

LCM Missionary Harrow

Joseph works with the team in Harrow, where 60% of the Hindu community are from India. He visits churches, to come alongside and equip Christians, and helps run a weekly street evangelism book table in Hounslow. “It’s very exciting,” said Joseph. “Hindus know about Jesus, love to discuss God, and many long for a relationship.”

Emmanuel Gill

Team Leader Harrow

Emmanuel is leading a team of missionaries to envision and equip churches in Harrow to reach their communities with the good news of Jesus Christ.
