James relates to Jesus’ words in Luke 7:47: ‘The one who is forgiven much, loves much’.
"This feels so relevant to my story," says James. "From serving in the army and then working as a bouncer, with all the unhealthy relationships and habits that living in the world involves, to coming to repentance and faith."
"Because I’ve been forgiven so much, I want to give Jesus my all and proclaim his name and help others to do the same. This is what brought me to LCM."
With James’ support and encouragement, local churches are building long-lasting connections with people from all walks of life, from orthodox Jews to hipsters living on canal boats. More and more Christians are sharing the love of Jesus through door knocking, book tables, open-air preaching and hosting Bible studies.
In amongst the up-and-coming neighbourhoods which Hackney has become famous for are pockets of communities largely unreached by the gospel - such as the large Turkish community in the north of the borough. It has one of the largest crime rates in the capital, with frequent shootings, and many communities are seeking hope in other religions apart from Christ.
"My heart is to see a move of God in the council estates in Hackney, as people come to know Jesus through the outreach of the local church."
James is married with children who keep him very busy! But when time permits James enjoys boxing, playing the piano, photography and even caring for his pet tarantula ‘Webster’.
