In 2010, Jason’s brother-in-law Zac was stabbed to death outside his school by a group of boys. In the midst of their grief and pain, Jason’s wife Tayo and her mother Sarah were confronted with how they would respond to the boys who took Zac’s life. Together, they share this traumatic story and how through faith in Christ the family were able to forgive the five boys responsible.
“Our vision is to see every child across London given the opportunity to discover the power of forgiveness. Through this, we hope that children who attend the course would never consider carrying a knife let alone use one.”
Jason works as the ministry leader for the Operation Forgiveness team; an early intervention knife-crime and youth violence initiative that equips young people with the power of forgiveness. The team describe the impact of their Christian faith through their own journeys to forgiveness, and how although forgiveness can be difficult, it is ultimately liberating. They are also seeking to envision and equip Christians in churches across London to run this workshop and deliver it within local schools themselves.
Zac is one of many young people in London whose lives are violently cut short every year. In recent years, the capital has seen some of its highest ever rates of teenage murders.
“Youth violence is on the increase but we believe it is preventable - early intervention is proven to work and it is what we do. The Gospel is key to our family story, and our desire is for every child in London to hear our story through experiencing Operation Forgiveness, and to discover the true power of forgiveness.”
Outside of work, Jason is a music producer and a DJ who specialises in playing Gospel Reggae and Dancehall.
