Jayne Kinghorn

Missionary in Barking & Dagenham and Havering

"I am aware of what it's like wanting to know the Lord, but not knowing where or how..."

It was a knock at the door in 1991 that changed the course of Jayne’s life forever.

“I was a Jehovah’s Witness at the time. I’d previously been a Rastafarian. But here was a Christian, explaining the gospel to me for the first time. This was the first step in me becoming a Christian.”

Jayne became inspired to share the gospel in the same way that a Christian has done the same with her. Working in schools across Dagenham as a speech and language therapist gave Jayne many opportunities to do this. After many years of volunteering with London City Mission, she felt called by the Lord to become a full-time missionary.

“I have always found people fascinating and enjoy hearing about other peoples' lives and backgrounds. I am aware of what it is like wanting to know the Lord but not knowing where or how to find Jesus. It is my passion to share Jesus with anyone who wants to know about him.”

Jayne trains churches to share the gospel with people around them – especially with those from a Muslim background.

“In Barking and Dagenham 24% of the residents are Muslims, and this figure is increasing all the time. In the conversations I have with Muslims, I’m often struck by the burden they carry to do enough good works to earn their forgiveness. We have liberating news we can share! ”

Jayne is coming alongside churches across the borough, as well as in neighbouring Havering. She goes out with them into the local neighbourhood, building connections on people’s doorsteps, training church members on sharing their faith effectively.

“We have many people moving into Barking and Dagenham from all walks of life and they need to hear about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus. It is my hope that more Christians get involved in talking about their faith; to walk with them as they begin to experience the great joy there is in getting involved in the Great Commission!”

Jayne is actively involved at her church where her husband, Neil, is a minister and they also work together to encourage their congregation to get involved in sharing Jesus with their friends and neighbours.

Jayne enjoys time out playing with her four grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.
