Kashane Gayle

Mission Associate in Hounslow

I’ve always had a heart for young people because of my own tough upbringing.  My heart is to spread the hope I’ve found in Jesus.

Growing up in London wasn’t easy for Kashane. “Living in a single-parent household taught me to accept that I wouldn’t have the same opportunities as other kids had. So, I did everything in my power to gain fame, glory, and money – including through athletics.”

“Then in the 2020 lockdown,I realised what I once thought was attainable was slipping through my fingers. I questioned whether life was worth living.”

One day, Kashane watched a Billy Graham sermon and opened the Bible to follow along.

“The words jumped out at me, and I just began to believe it was true! I discovered that Jesus is the only one worth living for. My heart shifted –—from pursuing sport and glory for myself to bringing glory to Christ.”

Kashane grew a passion for evangelism and discovered LCM when they came to train his church. He began volunteering his time with the Hounslow Team, sharing Jesus on high-street, before applying to be a Mission Associate.

“I’ve always had a heart for young people because of my own tough upbringing. My heart is to spread the hope I’ve found in Jesus – especially to kids and teens like me, who never had the opportunities they deserved and felt forgotten. I want them to know that true hope, true friendship, and true love are found in Jesus.”

Kashane serves as a Mission Associate for Children, Youth, and Schools in Hounslow. In this role, he supports and equips churches to respond to the needs of their local communities while sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with young people across the borough. He also helps churches build meaningful relationships with children and youth, nurturing their faith and encouraging them to grow in their walk with Christ.

Hounslow is one of the most diverse communities in London, with a large South Asian population, and it has one of the fastest – growing populations in the city. Kashane shares: “Growing up in Hounslow, I personally experienced the challenges of coming from a low-income household, and I saw how it impacted me during my time in education. Unfortunately, this is still a problem for many children in Hounslow today. The percentage of 16–18-year-olds not in education or work is one of the highest among London’s boroughs. Additionally, only 38% of people in Hounslow identify as Christian, and Islam is on the rise..”

“My vision for Hounslow is for the churches to be pillars of hope and truth within the community, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. I envision the young people discovering purpose through the Gospel and children finding hope in the incredible story of Jesus.”

Kashane has a deep love for food – he loves cooking – but he loves to eat even more! He has a passion for music, sports, and exploring new places. “But above all,” shares Shane, “what I cherish most is learning about God through His Word.”
