Nimo grew up as a child going to church, but it wasn’t until his early 20s that events in his life caused him to realise his need of a Saviour.
“I was lost, but Jesus found me. He forgave me and transformed me; how can I not devote my life to helping others to find him too!”
Soon after his conversion, his church sent him on a week’s mission with Operation Mobilisation, where he helped a new church plant reach their community by knocking on doors. This experience ingrained a love for evangelism in Nimo, which developed into a desire to reach out to Muslims especially to those from a Turkish background who he would meet in Enfield. This eventually led to an opportunity to serve alongside a church in Turkey for the best part of 14 years.
In 2016 Nimo heard about the opportunity to work with LCM alongside a church in London helping them reach out to Turkish speakers. As a result, he and his wife returned to London for the next stage of their adventure with Jesus.
Nimo is now a Team Leader for a LCM team in Enfield, home to the largest community of Turkish speakers in the capital. In Eastern Enfield, where one in three residents is Muslim, Nimo his team are equipping and supporting churches to reach out their community with the Good News of Jesus.
“Most Muslims in Enfield lack a Christian friend. This means that for a significant number of people, there is no one praying for them by name, seeking to show the love of Jesus, or sharing the transformative message of the Gospel.”
One key initiative is offering English classes for the Turkish community, which provide an opportunity to build friendships, to talk about Jesus and to share invitations to church. Additionally, the team regularly goes out with members from churches onto local high streets, striking up conversations about Jesus, often with people from the Muslim community.
“It’s so encouraging seeing the confidence of church members grow. Our goal is to replicate these successful ministries in other churches throughout Eastern Enfield.”
“There is a huge openness particularly from people from Turkish, Bulgarian and Kurdish backgrounds. We’ve got a massive opportunity. We would like to mobilise churches to have a careful gospel concern and see these communities integrated into their church families.”
In his spare time Nimo loves to watch and play tennis. When he’s not working hard in LCM, you will often find him on a tennis court somewhere in Enfield burning off the stress of ministry and trying to keep fit!
