How To Talk About Faith With Muslims

Share

Nimo is working on a new resource to help us be confident to talk about faith with Muslims.

I’ll never forget the first time I met someone from a Muslim background. His name was Mohammed, and he would invite me round to drink tea and chat. As a new Christian excited about the good news of Jesus, our conversation would often turn to spiritual things. One day, Mohammed said this to me: “I’m a Muslim and as a Muslim I love Isa (Jesus) even more than Christians…”

I wonder how you would answer him? Of course, we know the Jesus of the Bible and the Isa of the Qur’an are by no means the same. But how would you go about explaining to a Muslim friend who the real Jesus is, or defending the Trinity, or the fact that Jesus really did die on the cross and rise again?

As Christians there is a right and respectful way to critique non-Christian worldviews. On a surface level, Islam seems to offer a simple and coherent faith with its belief in one God and rules-based approach to living. Scratch below the surface however, and we find many aspects to Islam are perplexing and seem so opposed to modern society. Many elements are not known or understood by our Muslim friends.

We feel it is a loving thing to respectfully raise these things with our Muslim friends, not to villainise them or win arguments, but to point them to the truth.

We are putting together a resource that will help you both defend the Christian faith and start honest conversations about Islam with those from a Muslim background. The app will help you use the Bible and Islam’s trusted sources to engage on topics like Muhammed’s marriages, the problems of 7th Century Islamic history, or the reliability of the Qur’an.

At LCM we love our Muslim friends, which is why they need to hear the truth.
