THE CHAIRMAN'S FUND

Mark Harding will be a familiar face to so many who have been involved in the mission in recent decades. He became a trustee in 1991, and has faithfully served as LCM’s Chair of the Board for the past 14 years.

After over thirty years of service, Mark is now retiring, and handing the reins to fellow board member Richard Montgomery.

He is marking his retirement by highlighting the amazing work God is doing in the lives of the most marginalised men and women in London. The Chairman’s fund is an opportunity to join Mark in celebrating this work, and enabling people so often overlooked by others, to hear the life-saving hope of Jesus for the first time. People like Brian – whose story in particular inspired Mark.

"Another person, however kind, ultimately can’t change lives like that."

“He was living life in a way that was so far from the Lord, time in prison, addictions, sleeping rough, estranged from his family”, reflects Mark. “The gospel transformed his life completely, he is now working, in contact with his daughter and part of a church family. Our staff are wonderful, and were greatly used by God to minister to him, but another person, however kind, ultimately can’t change lives like that. Seeing miracles of grace like this, makes us appreciate afresh just how great the goodness of God really is.”

An urgent gospel need

Brian didn’t know a practicing Christian. He didn’t have anyone to invite him to church, to encourage him to read the Bible, or to share their faith with him. This, sadly, is true for one in two people in London today.

And it’s especially amongst people living on estates, people who are homeless and marginalised, people following other religions and amongst communities from other parts of the world. These are places where Jesus Christ isn’t known.

LCM works alongside local evangelical churches to build bridges into these communities, helping everyday Christians to share the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ in an urban environment, crossing cultural, religious, ethnic and social barriers with the light of the gospel.

This work is made possible through the prayers and financial support of Christians, joining LCM in gospel partnership.

"During my 32 years on the board, I have seen the Lord’s faithfulness for myself."

Mark says “The Lord is doing a great work of grace in using gifted LCM evangelists to build up His Church in London today. During my 32 years on the board, I have seen the Lord’s faithfulness for myself. I would encourage my fellow evangelicals to prayerfully consider partnering in the gospel with LCM - if we are to see the good news of Jesus Christ reach the great gospel need on our doorstep, we all need to come together in the Great Commission.”

Mark is handing over to Richard Montgomery who joined the board in 2018 and worked for more than thirty years in senior positions in the energy industry. He is the former Managing Director of the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity, a trustee of CPAS and also chairs a UK grant making charity that supports the poor and vulnerable. His wife works for their church, St Stephen’s, in Twickenham where they live and worship. They have three adult sons.
